An unlikely reunion (Chapter 2)

Chapter 2 :Fireworks

As soon as the plane landed, Tae-kyung rushed to his father’s house, he rarely came here but he knew he was always welcome. The surroundings were familiar and grand as befitting a composer of his stature, but today he did not notice anything. Normally he greeted everyone and settled down before he went about his business but all he thought was Mi Nyu.
Flinging down his suitcase he rushed out the door to the Korean embassy wanting to find out about Mi Nyu’s progress. Even as he walked in he was recognized by a few people who stared as he passed by, his long firm step echoing in the paneled steps.
Her plane had already landed and she was in the Missions hospital, a little way from where he was. No need to tell the driver to hurry, the man drove as if all the hounds of hell were behind him – reminding him of his own driving, the same unconcern for traffic or rules.
Hospitals smelled the same he realized as he ran across the crowded corridors. Pig rabbit! Always trouble, he told himself, anger masking his feelings of concern.
She was behind a screen. His heart was beating so fast, maybe he ran too fast, he told himself. Worried about how he would find her, Scared to see her..
Someone came out from behind, looked at him and asked, “Who are you? ‘
Tae-kyung fumbled “her fiancée, friend”.
The doctor obviously recognizing the signs of a lover explained her condition to him. Mi Nyu was ok, scratched up and only one injury to her waist that was a little serious. She would need to be kept in observation for a couple of days, then be sent home and would he mind signing a few papers before he saw her.
Procedures done, by the time he got back in the room she was sleeping, alone – she was someone who had resisted going in to the hospital when she was burning up with fever, who was one of the strongest women he had ever met. And as he looked at her in the cramped bed, he realized she was really very small, petite hands, little feet. How could he have ever mistaken her for Minam. Slowly he sat at the feet of her bed, never again would he let her go. He vowed to himself. And as he watched her eyes fluttered open.
“Pig rabbit” he shouted – eyes flashing “you are always in trouble, clumsy, foolish, troublesome, bothering and causing problems for other people. But how can you not take care of your own self, seeing you makes me feel troubled and frustrated, and I will never let you go again, never, you understand, never, he cried pulling her into a hug, and tipping her face to take over her lips. . Hungnim !!! Tae-kyung shii what!! What!! Was all Mi Nyu could exclaim, surprised and unbearably happy…..

Mi Nyu had missed him dreadfully when she left Korea, but the months of forced separation from him had given her the strength to go about her activities. She still blushed when she remembered the last couple of hours before she boarded her flight. With the stars around her neck, it was the star inside her heart that was shining so brightly. Mentally she had to concentrate on her humanitarian work, but the sadness all around her made her realize how much more precious her life was, in comparison with millions of people in the world.
A role reversal had happened with Tae-kyung being very insistent that she was not paying any attention to him and actually calling her every day or mostly nights. The 4 months had flown and she was looking forward to returning to the part of herself she had left behind, when the accident had taken her by surprise. She only knew that she was being specially treated, was on the way to Paris instead of the nearest Mission Hospital and now…….

He was here! He is here. Her eyes told her, her ears listened to all the anger and frustration pouring out of him but all she felt was his love. He is here and he loves me was all she could comprehend. Hungnim !!! Tae-kyung shii what are you doing here? Was all she could say. Pulled into a ruthless hug and kissed out of her breath. To be awakened to another time when she had felt such fireworks in her heart. Staring at his face, he looked exhausted ‘Pig rabbit you are always in trouble. The familiar words made her feel safe, He is here. She thought, One of his hands found hers and she felt the happiness flow over her. She heard him say softly; “Never again will I let you go” before she dropped off to sleep. Content.
